Hey everyone,

I’m working on something to help someone out and was given a phone number to investigate. I want to make it clear that i’m not asking anyone to do it for me, just hoping to get some guidance on how I can approach it myself.

the person who asked me to look into this likely knows i’m still pretty new to OSINT (at least I think they do about 90% sure).

So, my main question is: how can i try to find an address linked to a phone number without having to pay for a service?

Appreciate any help or tips!

Also please don’t ask for the phone number I can’t share it since it’s private.

first off its good on you for trying to help someone and learning OSINT. For free reverse phone lookup, your best bets are sites like Truecaller, NumLookup, or even Google with quotes around the number (555-123-4567). Combine that with social media lookups and you might get lucky.

Try plugging the number into Facebook search bar. A lot of people don’t realize their number is linked to their profiles and publicly searchable. Same with WhatsApp and Telegram if you’ve got the apps.

Just throwing it out there and be super mindful of legality here. Digging into personal data even with good intentions can cross some lines depending on your location. If the number is tied to a crime or harassment, maybe suggest involving the authorities?

Honestly you’d be surprised what pops up if you throw the number into HaveIBeenPwned or Spokeo. You won’t get a full address but sometimes it’ll show names or partial info that leads somewhere else.

Google the number in quotes, check for mentions in forums, Craigslist ads, job boards, etc. Once found one tied to an old classified ad from 2013 with the guy’s full name and city. Absolute rabbit hole.

Just a heads-up, those free sites often look free, then hit you with paywalls. Start with Google, Facebook, LinkedIn, and check image search if it brings up screenshots of listings or resumes. Don’t waste time registering for shady lookup sites.

Totally get wanting to help someone. Just make sure they’re not putting you in a bad position unknowingly. People sometimes use OSINT to do shady stuff without admitting it. Trust but verify.

I used Sync.Me once and it actually gave me the guy’s name which matched what I saw on Facebook. Free, no login. Not always accurate, but hey, it’s free. Stack enough sources and you’ll paint a picture.

Use Google Maps with partial info if you ever find a city/state. Public records can be semi-free if you know where to look. Just don’t fall for those fake Free Search sites that ask for your SSN.

You can try texting the number from a burner app like TextNow and seeing if it responds. Sometimes people have auto replies with names or business info. Not exactly scientific but it’s worked before

If it’s a business or a scammer, there’s a solid chance it’s been reported to sites like 800notes.com or WhoCallsMe. Community reports are goldmines. Sometimes people even drop the address in the comments.

Not trying to be a jerk, but if you’re new to OSINT and this isn’t like a missing persons case or scam, maybe hold off? Getting deep into someone’s info without a solid reason gets ethically murky fast.

Look up the number on PayPal or Venmo if you’ve got accounts there. Sometimes people still have public settings and you can see names or profiles. Wild what people leave open lol.

Honestly man if you really need an address you’ll probably hit a wall without paying eventually. But you can gather a LOT for free first and decide if it’s worth it. Stack free tools before you give up.
